Do I need my own camera?
For most days, yes — any camera with manual controls is fine, including bridge and mirrorless cameras. We keep a small loan stock for group and family sessions; just ask when you book and we will match you.
I’m a complete beginner. Will I be out of my depth?
No. Camera School and our outdoor days are designed for people starting from zero, and groups are capped at six so nobody gets left behind. If you can switch the camera on, we can start from there.
How fit do I need to be?
Our outdoor locations are chosen within short, gentle walks of parking — think stiles and sheep tracks, not scrambles. Tell us about any mobility needs when booking and we will plan routes accordingly.
What happens if it rains?
This is Cumbria — we plan for weather rather than cancel. Days adapt: barn-based sessions expand, outdoor sessions work between showers (which often photograph beautifully). Only named-storm conditions would postpone a day, and you would be moved free of charge to the next suitable date.
What should I bring?
Your camera and lenses, a packed lunch (unless your day says otherwise), sturdy footwear, and clothing that forgives weather. A notebook is worth more than a new lens. Full joining details are emailed a week before your date.
Where exactly are you, and is there parking?
We are at Pickett How Farm, Uldale View, Egremont, Cumbria CA22 2UD — on the western edge of the Lake District, ten minutes from Ennerdale Bridge. Free parking is on the farmyard; full directions come with your booking confirmation.
How do bookings and payment work?
Places are booked by email or phone and confirmed with a card payment over the phone or bank transfer — your confirmation email holds the details. Full joining instructions follow within two working days.
Can I cancel or move my date?
Yes. You can move to any alternative date free of charge up to 14 days before your booking. Cancellations more than 14 days ahead receive a full refund; inside 14 days we will offer you the next available date or a voucher, because tutors and models are already committed.
Do you sell gift vouchers?
Yes — vouchers for any workshop day, valid for twelve months. Choose the course and we will email a personalised voucher the same week, or post a printed card if you prefer.
Are children welcome?
Young photographers from about age 12 are welcome on group days when accompanied by a paying adult. For families with younger children, a bespoke family session usually works much better — just ask.
